Description
#17 Magnesium Anode Bag
A sacrificial anode is what stops an underground steel propane tank corroding. It is deliberately made of a metal that corrodes more readily than the tank, so the surrounding soil attacks the anode instead. Every buried tank needs one, and it is not optional under normal installation practice.
This is the 17 lb magnesium unit, supplied pre-packed in prepared backfill so the installer does not have to mix it on site. The backfill is 75% hydrated gypsum, 20% bentonite and 5% sodium sulphate — a low-resistivity, quick-wetting blend that keeps the anode in reliable electrical contact with the surrounding ground.
Included
- 17 lb magnesium anode, pre-packed in backfill
- 10 ft of #12 connecting wire
Also available in 4 lb and 9 lb sizes. Which size suits your installation depends on soil resistivity and tank surface area — your installer will specify it.
Anode installation is part of the tank installation and must be carried out by your licensed propane professional. We supply the anode; we do not install it.
