An underground tank is coated rather than painted and needs cathodic protection: an anode bag buried with the tank draws corrosion away from the shell, which is why we stock them alongside. Installation costs more than above ground because of excavation and backfill, but the tank is out of sight and less exposed to temperature swings. 3 of these tanks are rated for either installation. Prices run $470 to $5,300.
