Why bury a tank this size
A 1,000 gallon vessel above ground is a visually dominant object with substantial setback requirements. Burying it removes both problems: the tank disappears apart from the dome, and the setback picture changes. That is usually why this size goes underground rather than any difference in what it supplies — it is a whole-property tank either way, typically serving heating plus a pool heater or generator.
What underground installation involves
Excavation sized and prepared to specification, correct backfill, and cathodic protection via a sacrificial anode to protect the coated steel from soil corrosion. All of it is governed by NFPA 58 and by your state and local authority.
