Above ground or buried?
This tank is painted, not coated, which makes it an above-ground vessel. Above-ground installation is cheaper and simpler — no excavation, no backfill, no anode — and it keeps the tank accessible for inspection, gauge reading and service. The trade-off is that a 500 gallon tank is visible and must sit at a compliant distance from buildings and boundaries.
Installation
Siting and setback distances are governed by NFPA 58 and by your state and local authority. The tank needs a level, firm base prepared before delivery, and installation must be carried out by a licensed propane professional.
